Netbeans 6.8 & the Sun IDM Plugin

In what seems like a repeat post, Netbeans 6.8 was recently released.  This release of Netbeans 6.8 heralds support of the Java 6 EE specification.  That’s always nice for us Java developers.  So, does it work with the Sun IDM plugin?  Well, not the released 8.1 plugin.  That plugin suffers from the same problem the previous version of Netbeans had, it just doesn’t install or work.  Technically, the IDM 8.1 plugin only supports Netbeans 6.1 but it works reasonably well with Netbeans 6.5 so it’s no big surprise that it doesn’t work in Netbeans 6.7 and up.

The pre-release of the Sun IDM 9.0 plugin does not work either.  During the installation of the plugin there is a notice about missing dependencies and the installer refuses to proceed.  I did a cursory search to see if I could add the dependencies myself but came up with nothing.  I’d rather keep my current development environment sane anyway.

Anyway, the short story is don’t use Netbeans 6.8 with any release of Sun IDM, at least not for now.  Hopefully the IDM 9.0 release will bring the plugin in line with current the current Netbeans release.  The last I’ve heard from Sun is that was their intentions.
