About
IDM Insights is about the technical side of Identity Management. While the focus of the blog is on the technical and implementation details of identity management using the Sun Identity Manager, some general non-technical concepts may creep in.
Roughly a year go, my organization upgraded from Sun Identity Manager 6 to 7.1. We’ll be moving to 8.1 in the next year or so. I’ve been using IDM on an off for several years but have recently been pushed into doing a lot more custom work with it.
It is worth noting that I am not an employee of Sun (or Oracle) nor am I affiliated with a professional services company or group. I’m simply a customer. I’m definitely not an evangelist of the Sun IDM product – far from it. While it does its basic job well, Sun Identity Manager has some massive warts. The documentation, in particular, is absolutely horrid and I’ve spent many nights pulling my hair out trying to figure out what the heck is going on. That’s is part of the reason why I’ve started this blog. Hopefully it will be useful to others who are deploying Sun Identity Manager.
